DRA Water has established a longstanding partnership with Glencore to provide a holistic water treatment solution for their operation at Tweefontein and the surrounding area. With extensive experience in mine water reclamation, DRA has constructed a 17.5 ML/D mine water treatment plant comprising of a 2-stage membrane process with inter-stage softening. A state-of-the-art brine treatment plant concentrates the unrecovered water from the primary mine water treatment plant, economically reducing storage requirements and reducing legacy environmental liabilities.
A potable water supply of 10,000m³/day is generated by mineralizing and chlorinating the permeate stream. The product water complies with SANS drinking water standard and is supplied to the local municipality.
Apart from the treatment plant, the project included supporting infrastructure such as water retaining structures, offices, control room, laboratories, change houses and workshops. DRA continues to operate and maintain the facility from inception to date.
