AGA appointed DRA Global to undertake firstly a CS in October 2015, followed by the PFS commencing in March 2016, and finally the professional services related to the FS for the Mponeng LOM project.
The exploitation of the CLR reef and remaining VRC reef at the Mponeng mining complex was critical for the future sustainability of Mponeng as well as the West Wits region of AngloGold Ashanti. DRA Global successfully completed the PFS for the CLR extension and VCR co-extraction project; this proposal further detailed the study to feasibility level of confidence.
DRA Global managed the study work across all the technical disciplines, including geology, geotechnical, mining, process, environmental, logistics, engineering, infrastructure, as well as ventilation and refrigeration. This required a detailed understanding of the work done on previous studies, lessons learned during execution of the project phases and Mponeng as an operational mine.
Project highlights/ challenges
DRA Global successfully completed the Concept Study (“CS”) within three months showing project viability. Thereafter, the organisation completed the Pre-Feasibillity Study (PFS) by December 2016 and the Feasibility Study (FS) by February 2018.
DRA Global demonstrated opportunities to use proven new technology to enhance the project offering. Execution level of detail design was also performed for the first three years of the project in compliance with AngloGold Ashanti Limited's (“AGA”) part 5 study document.
