DRA Water was contracted by Lumwana Mining Company Limited, a Barrick Copper Mine in north-western Zambia to provide a solution to polish Uranium contaminated water from their Malundwe Pit to discharge standards. With extensive experience in mine water reclamation, DRA designed, constructed and commissioned a 70 ML/day Ion exchange plant to meet the full treatment requirements.
The design included large up-flow sand filters for pre-treatment and operates through gravity flow resulting in very low OPEX costs. The plant was designed in a modular fashion, allowing for fast-track deployment to the remote site location. The entire plant was designed, fabricated, delivered and commissioned in under 8 months.
