Project description
The Letseng project is a diamond processing plant in the mountains of Lesotho. At its construction and commissioning in 2004 it was the highest diamond mine and plant in the world. The Letseng mine has fewer, but larger stones and as such, the plant is designed to handle particles of up to 50 mm.
The 350 tph plant consists of a primary crushing section, scrubbing, secondary and tertiary crushing sections, and sections for dense media separation and recovery. The dense media section is designed to handle large particles.
Due to the very low on-site temperatures, all the equipment – including the water dam, thickener and conveyors – are all enclosed.
Services provided
DRA Global was responsible for designing and building a 350t/h DMS plant at Letseng Diamond mine, which is fully enclosed to accommodate extreme weather conditions. The plant complex includes primary crushing and scrubbing, secondary crushing and re-crushing, 800mm cyclones, wet x-ray recovery and integrated workshops and stores. Minopex has managed, operated and maintained the processing facility since it became operational in March 2004.
