DRA Global was selected as the engineering, procurement and construction management provider on JSE-listed Alphamin’s Bisie Tin project, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Bisie Tin is a greenfields high grade hydrothermal tin project. The deposit, based on the geological model at the time, was steeply dipping at an average of 60° and varying from limits of 35° at a dislocation point to 76°.
DRA Global’s scope included design, management and construction of the mine, process plant, infrastructure and Tailings Facilities as a total solution to the client in addition to achieving a mutually beneficial contract and optimised project model to proceed into full implementation.
DRA Global developed detailed mine design and production schedule for the 15-year Life of Mine at 40kt per month ROM production and provided implementation services. DRA Global was also responsible for the full scope of works including geotechnical, mining, process, infrastructure, capital, operating and sustaining costing and project management to successfully implement the project. Bisie Tin is one of the world's highest grade tin mines with annualised production of approximately 11,000tpa.
The project was located in a remote area of the North Kivu province; with very little infrastructure the site could only be accessed via helicopter or a two-day hike. DRA Global invested significantly into road access, power generation and waste management. DRA Global also established logistics procedures and accommodation for construction and operational purposes.
